Life in the slow lane: All good things must come to an end

26th November 2010

On our last morning in Brisbane, we checked out but left our luggage at the hotel to be picked up later. We wanted to go and explore the Museum and Art Gallery before flying back home. So here's some pictures from that morning plus one video ...

My Appeal

Of course since returning Queensland and Northern NSW have been devasted by the worse floods with people lost or dead. Fundraising appeals are being carried out as we speak and I urge you all to dig deep and help those in their hour of need. We can't help them any other way right now other than donating money to help with the relief and clear up. Sending them prayers and wishes. Most of the places, we visited including Brisbane are deluged by water as Rivers burst their banks, many are homeless, lost their business and some including 4 chiildren at this present time have lost their lives.

To help donate to http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html the flood appeal. For those who can't donate on line there are a number of options. Australia post have announced money boxes will be placed in their post offices on Thursday, banks and even Coles supermarkets are taking donations. This is the best way at the moment.

Once the big clean up gets under way, the slavation army and the red cross will probably be in need of practical items like food, blankets, clothes but they will let us know. Also tradies will be required to help rebuild damaged properties.

Once the floods have sub-sided and relief has been given, people have started to re-build their lives back up, please consider taking a holiday to one of the flood hit regions and buy products locally.  I ask anyone, wherever you are in the world to do something to help those devasted by the flood in Queensland and Northern NSW to do there bit.

To give you an idea of the extent of the damage - it covers an area similar to the size of Germany and France combined - Australia is a Big country and this is a Big disaster!

Life in the slow lane: Last full day in Brisbane

25th November 2010

After having some breakfast in our lovely apartment, we ventured back to the precinct to find the Tourist Information centre, we needed to get  just a day ticket for the Buses and Ferry and find out what zones we needed them for.

Once we had got the tickets we actually decided to walk over the bridge we walked on last night towards the West End of Brisbane. Once we arrived close to the Commonwealth bank there, an argument broke out amongst a group of Aboriginal women, it was actually quite funny to watch. I saw some beautiful flowers along the way.

I liked the West End it has an interesting mix of shops, cafes and bars

We walked around the West End for sometime before taking the Bus back to Queen Street Mall. We popped in Burger King for a quick bite to eat before heading towards the Ferry terminal on Brisbane's river.

We took the Ferry first all the way from opposite side of Southbank to Queensland University and then back along the river all the way along to Appolo Road, back from Apollo Road to get off at Southbank. raine wanted to show me the amazing man made beach, as well as Southbank itself.

Its hard to believe that this exists in te centre of any city but it does. On one of the pictures above there was a water feature, I wanted to record it working on video ...

We also took a walk through a small Rainforest, and saw the Nepalese Temple that was designed for Expo88. beofre walking back home.

Once we had sampled the delights of the Southbank we walked back to the apartment. That was pretty much our last day of the Holiday. We had tomorrow morning to still do things before flying back to Melbourne.
